The personalities who commissioned murals and paintings from Whistler represent the British artistic-social milieu between the wars and include Sir Philip Sassoon, Cecil Beaton, Dorothy Wellesley, Edward James, Henry 'Chips' Channon, Diana Cooper, the Marquess and Marchioness of Anglesey and Maud Russell.
