[Elizabeth Hawes. Alexey Brodovitch]
A challenging critique of the fashion industry by the American fashion designer Elizabeth Hawes. In Fashion is Spinach , published in 1938, Hawes protests against the dominance of the French couturiers and the fashion rules that came from across the Atlantic. She champions the rights of women to wear the clothes they wish to wear and which suit their lifestyles. It is a choice of style over fashion. Hawes' book struck a chord and it helped to promote ready-to-wear and home-grown American talent. Scarce with the dust jacket present.
