The sale included paintings and drawings by Rex Whistler, Andre Breton, Magritte, Dali, Dorothea Tanning, Pavel Tchelitchew, Leonor Fini, Eugene Berman, Leonora Carrington, and Picasso. The catalogue includes a preface by Desmond Guinness, extracts from James' memoir and Philip Purser's biography, and photographs of the interiors of Monkton House at West Dean.
