Stephen Gill moved to the Swedish countryside in 2014. He began to photograph the local landscape and wildlife, and then set up motion-sensor cameras near the forest floor to capture the movement of the animals at night-time. The photographs in Night Procession feature a secret cast of creatures including a fox, hare, wild boar, deer, mouse, bird of prey, and an owl. The format of the book complements Gill's later 2019 title The Pillar. The series won the 2017 Hariban Award.
