His fashion photographs, studio portraits and still-lifes are some of the finest of the era and are highly collectable. He worked extensively for Vogue magazine. During his lifetime Penn published several photo books, including Moments Preserved (1960), Worlds in a Small Room (1974) and Flowers (1980).
